On the first charge, he was convicted under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing the death of 52-year-old Corina Dina without intent when he mistakenly fired a shotgun, believing she was a squirrel moving in the bushes. For this, he was fined RM4,000 or, in default, five months’ jail.

On the second charge, under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act, Mangkok was fined RM2,000 or three months’ jail for using an unlicensed shotgun, which belonged to his son.

The offences took place at a village in Tebakang around 10am on July 23.

According to the facts, police were alerted by villagers that a woman had been shot. Investigators later confirmed that the victim died from gunshot injuries to her arm and chest, as verified by a post-mortem report.

Police seized the firearm, ammunition, and related items following the arrest of the accused on the same day.
