Missing woman found drowned in Sungai Baron, Sarikei

KUCHING, June 9: The 62-year-old woman who was reported missing near Sungai Baron on Friday (June 7) was found drowned by the rescue team at 10.35am today.

According to the report provided by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the body of the victim, identified as Lenya Sigat, was found floating about 50 metres from the scene of her disappearance.

“The victim’s body was found floating by the river bank without any clothes,” read the report.

Initial operations to bring up the body was postponed until the arrival of the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ).

The operation commander later instructed for the body to be handed over to the police for further investigation, concluding the search and rescue (SAR) operation at 1pm.

Initial efforts in locating the victim uncovered a can of white paint and other belongings, such as soap and her clothing, drifting down approximately 100 metres from the bathing spot. — DayakDaily
