Missing toddler’s caretaker and husband remanded until March 31

KUCHING, March 24: A caretaker and her husband who are suspected to be involved in the alleged murder of 4-year-old Eric Chang had their remands extended for seven days until March 31 to assist the police investigation.

The 37-year-old female suspect and 51-year-old male suspect, as well as the parents of the missing boy were arrested by the police on March 11.


However, both Chang’s parents were released after a police investigation while his caretaker and her husband were further detained by the police.

According to police investigations, video footage from a restaurant in Muara Tebas showed both the caretaker and her husband carrying a polystyrene box and dumping it at Muara Tebas Wharf, at about 9pm on March 6.

Chang was reported missing from Taman Riverview, Bintawa on March 7 while under the care of his mother’s friend.

On March 11, the boy’s parents as well as his caretaker and her husband were detained to assist the police investigation.

On March 13, the police reclassified the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. — DayakDaily
