BARAM, Feb 4: A 40-year-old Randy Laing Alexander Anyie reported missing while hunting in Kampung Sungai Dua, Long Lama since January 25, was found dead in a cave yesterday (Feb 3).

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the search and rescue (SAR) team discovered the victim’s belongings at Mile 3 of Lubang Ungey Cave.

Five rescuers were deployed to carry out the recovery effort. However, they faced significant difficulties reaching the victim due to the extremely narrow passage near the body.

“Initial assessments indicated that the victim’s body had already bloated. The first attempt to recover the body using webbing and ropes was unsuccessful, as decomposition had set in, causing parts of the body to detach,” Bomba said in a report.

Due to deteriorating weather conditions, including heavy rain, and the challenging terrain, the operation was called off at 6pm after discussions between the police (PDRM), Bomba, and the victim’s family.

The search was officially terminated due to multiple constraints.

Randy left his house around 8pm on Jan 25 to go hunting but did not inform his family of his destination. He has not returned home since, raising concerns among his family.

Family members searched areas where Randy frequently hunts and found his motorcycle abandoned at a junction near Mile 5 on the Kejin Camp road.

The Marudi Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Marudi) received a report about Randy’s disappearance at 8.39pm on Jan 27. – DayakDaily
