Missing fisherman found near West Lutong

The body is being taken to Marina Jetty.

MIRI, Mar 7: The body of a man was found floating near West Lutong on Saturday morning.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, the body was spotted by crew of a platform supply vessel near the West Lutong area around 9.50am.


The body was located at about eight nautical miles off Lutong beach.

The body was believed to be that of Kadri Tera, a 71-year-old fisherman who was reported missing in the waters off Kuala Bakam on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) commander Salehuddin Zakaria when met at Marina Jetty today, disclosed that a team of Bomba Miri and Miri MMEA team had been deployed to the area to recover the body.

The body has been taken to Miri Hospital’s morgue.

On Thursday morning, a fishing boat belonging to Kadri was found anchored at about 500m off Kampung Kuala Bakam beach. Kadri was nowhere to be found nearby or inside the boat, prompting a Search and Rescue Operation. —DayakDaily
