Missing Bintulu fishermen found safe after left adrift by engine trouble

Family members expressed relief after finding out all three fishermen were found safe.

BINTULU, Nov 27: Three missing fisherman from Kampung Jabai and Kampung Sinong have been found safe this afternoon, after they were reported missing since yesterday.

Shamsuddin Dahlan, 52, his son Mohd Syazwan, 17, and Mohd Husaini Azman, 18, were found and rescued by Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Bintulu about 22 nautical miles from Tanjung Kidurong at 3.05pm.

According to an MMEA statement, the victims were found safe.


Shamsuddin’s boat which was found 22 nautical miles from Tanjung Kidurong being towed to shore by MMEA.

The trio had gone fishing at 3am on Nov 26 when Shamsuddin’s boat’s engine had failed and the boat drifted away in the currents.

The fishermen failed to return home on the same day, prompting family members to lodge a police report this morning.

Subsequently, a search and rescue (SAR) operation was mounted by MMEA together with the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and Civil Defence Force (APM). — DayakDaily
