KUCHING, Sept 6: Miri City Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang urges Mirians to give their full cooperation to the enumerators deployed by Statistics Department Miri Branch to carry out the Population and Housing Census via Face-To Face Interview in Miri City.

In making the call, Yii in a statement today assured that the Statistics Department Miri Branch officer will be carrying their identification card issued by the department when on duties.

“They will carry out their duties in pairs of at least 2 persons. The enumerators will carry out the Census 7-days a week, including on public holidays, starting in the morning until later afternoon (around 5pm to 7pm).

“The late afternoon hours are meant to suit the convenience of the office-workers who only come back home in late afternoon,” he said.

Yii explained normally, the Census Interview will only take about 15 minutes, and the enumerators can conduct their interview between the gate should the house-owners are reluctant to open the gate.

He said in the event the house owners are not at home, the enumerators will issue Letter of Re-Visit seeking for a new date for the Census.

“If the house owners are in doubt of the identity of the enumerators they can always call the Statistics Department, Miri Branch for verification.

“All particulars gathered are strictly confidential and solely for data-compilation,” he added.

He stressed it is vital for the government to gather adequate and accurate data in order to plan and programme for various developments for the nation and upgrade the standard of living for the people.

“In this respect, I once again request Mirians to give their support in this population and housing census,” he said.

The census have resumed since Aug 17, and will run until Oct 31, 2021, after several postponements since July 7, 2020, due to the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.
