KUCHING, Oct 10: The newly launched Miri Smart Buses, equipped with the Sarawak Smart City application, aim to provide a more efficient and user-friendly transportation experience for residents and tourists.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) news report, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the integration of this app would enhance the service quality in the smart city and popular resort destination of Miri.

“Previously, we implemented the RM1 bus fare policy, allowing passengers to travel anywhere in the city. This has certainly reduced the burden on Miri residents, especially the B40 community,” he remarked during a press conference following the official launch of ‘The Miri Smart Buses’ at the Miri Bus Terminal yesterday (Oct 8).

The Premier added that the initiative aligns with the Sarawak government’s vision to further improve services and amenities in Miri, which is home to two UNESCO World Heritage sites—Mulu, and more recently, Niah Caves—which have also attracted foreign tourists.

Abang Johari further emphasised that the Sarawak government’s efforts are indirectly boosting the socio-economic sector for local residents.

Also present at the event were Sarawak Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin; Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Sarawak Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Road), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil; Sarawak Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat; Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chew Yew; Sarawak Transport Ministry permanent secretary, Datu Wong Hee Sieng; heads of departments, community leaders, and other distinguished guests. — DayakDaily
