KUCHING, Feb 20: Eight assemblymen from Miri had requested a bigger allocation from the Sarawak government to implement the Greater Miri Development Master Plan.

Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the allocation would be used to develop and improve the district’s infrastructure, ports, and utilities.

“The proposals include better road networks and digital infrastructure connectivity between Miri City and the hinterland, such as Mulu, Baram, Telang Usan, Beluru, and Subis.

“Miri needs to have good linkages with the hinterland with good infrastructures where more economic activities relating to tourism and commercial agriculture can be carried out.

“Miri will function as the economic hub and as a smart city to provide the support services and facilities,” said Lee in his speech during the Federation of the Division Chinese Association Sarawak’s Unity Night Year 2022 last night.

Lee, also Senadin assemblyman, noted that the Greater Miri Development Master Plan was proposed during a two-day, two-night lab organised by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) Sarawak in 2020.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) elected representatives in the Miri Division were present with various ministries and agencies.

Apart from Lee, the other seven elected representatives are Datuk Sabestian Ting Chiew Yew (Piasau), Adam Yii (Pujut), Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil (Marudi), Dennis Ngau (Telang Usan), Datuk Gerawat Jala (Mulu), Ripin Lamat (Lambir), and Datuk Rosey Yunus (Bekenu). ― DayakDaily
