MIRI, March 23: A local man, suspected to be a drug dealer, was apprehended with RM60,000 worth of drugs weighing 3.2kg during a raid on Tuesday night (March 22).

The seized drugs were found concealed in juice powder sachets.

According to Miri Police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari in a statement, the 35-year-old unemployed man was detained in an operation around 8.30pm in front of a 24-hour self-service laundromat at Jalan Sim Cheng Kay.

Upon inspection, the authorities found 10 ‘Juice Master’ packets containing methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) powder, commonly known as Ecstasy, inside the man’s sling bag.

“They weighed 300g,” said Hakemal.

The suspect then led the Miri Narcotics Police personnel to his rented room at a budget hotel at Jalan Sim Keng Kay MCLD where the police discovered 90 sachets of the juice powder suspected to MDMA weighing 2.9kg.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had previous criminal records for drug offences.

It was believed that the seized drugs were meant for distribution at various points locally, especially at entertainment outlets in Miri.

The suspect who tested negative for drugs has been remanded seven days for investigations under Section 39B of Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — DayakDaily
