MIRI, Sept 19: Police are investigating a viral social media post showing a dog allegedly being dragged behind a lorry in the Piasau Industrial Area here.
According to a Facebook post, the Miri District Police received a report on Sept 16 regarding images of the incident that were circulated on the Facebook page Miri Edition on Sept 15.
Police are investigating the incident under Section 73(1)(g) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999.
Police said they are taking the matter seriously and are investigating to establish the actual circumstances surrounding the incident and determine further action under the relevant laws.
The public have also been advised against speculating or sharing unverified information about the incident.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact the Miri District Police.
Meanwhile, in a post dated Sept 16 on the Miri Edition page on Facebook, the dog’s owner issued an apology for the incident.
The owner, who remained anonymous, explained that the dog was tied to the back of the lorry in a dry, sheltered area because it was raining and had forgotten about it before driving off.
“I only realised what had happened when I was going around a corner. I immediately stopped, rescued my dog, and put him safely inside the lorry,” said the owner.
The owner expressed guilt and accepted responsibility, adding that the dog had been treated, its wounds bandaged, and it had been given medication.
Additionally, the owner lodged a police report to ensure transparency and keep a record of the incident in case of further issues.
“I have learned a very painful lesson from this mistake, and I will make sure something like this never happens again,” said the owner. — DayakDaily
