MIRI, Sept 14:  While there are litterbugs spoiling the beauty of Lutong Beach Front, there are also unsung heroes who quietly volunteer to do beach clean.

Miri City Council Mayor Adam Yii said Lutong Beach Front (Pantai Lutong) is one of the recent popular spots frequently patronized by the locals.

However, he has been saddened that the beach front is being littered with odds and ends, bits of papers, discarded wrappings, bottles, unfinished food, face-masks and etc.

“The extent of the indiscriminate throwing of refuse has smeared the beautiful scenery of the beach front and this has drawn the concern of the beach goers as well as netizens who have expressed their frustration in the social media platforms,” said Yii in a statement today.

At the same time, he noted that Miri City is not short of civic minded people as there were many volunteers who took their own initiatives to start a beach clean or litter pick. The latest of such initiative, he was informed by nearby residents, was yesterday.

Yii would like to express his appreciation for their initiatives, stating that it was a commendable effort in bringing up public awareness among the people to look after the cleanliness of all beach fronts.

He urged visitors to the beach fronts to properly dispose of their garbage.

“If everyone can have this mindful practice, the many beach fronts in close vicinity to Miri City will continue to provide visitors and their families many happy hours and fond memories in many years to come. — DayakDaily
