“This innovation not only offers a unique experience for participants, but also places the Miri Marathon as a pioneering platform that integrates technological innovation with sports tourism,” he said at a press conference on Miri Marathon 2026 held in Miri today.

Ting added that the expected presence of international participants is projected to generate positive economic spillover effects, as many are anticipated to stay in Miri for at least three days and two nights, contributing to growth in the accommodation, food and beverage, and local transportation sectors.

Meanwhile, Adam Yii Siew Sang, Mayor of Miri City Council (MCC), expressed the council’s full support for the event, particularly in promoting Miri as a green, smart and liveable city.

“Large-scale sporting events such as this are capable of placing Miri on the international map while supporting aspirations to develop the city into a modern resort destination,” he said.

Beyond elevating Miri’s international profile, the organisation of Miri Marathon 2026 is also seen as aligning with efforts to support Visit Malaysia Year 2026 by attracting both domestic and international tourists.

For the record, Miri Marathon 2026 is scheduled to take place on April 12, 2026, with flag-off starting as early as 1am along Jalan Merpati.

The event is expected to draw about 10,000 participants across four race categories: the 42-kilometre Full Marathon, 21-kilometre Half Marathon, 10-kilometre Speed Run, and 5-kilometre Fun Run. — DayakDaily
