Miri floods trigger road collpase at Simpang Ngu-Batu Niah, landslide in Ulu Niah

MIRI, Dec 9: The Simpang Ngu–Batu Niah stretch of the Q283 road has collapsed and become completely impassable following severe flooding, adding to the worsening weather situation that has already forced hundreds of residents from their homes in northern Sarawak.

In an advisory notice posted on its social media, Public Works Department (JKR) Miri said the Q283 – Batu Niah CH 1+090 section was cut off due to flooding.

Immediate action was taken, including installing safety signage and closing the route to prevent risks to motorists.

Road users are urged to obey all on-site instructions and use alternative routes until the situation improves.

JKR Miri also reported that the road leading to Ulu Niah (coordinates: 3.7300450, 113.7792010) is affected by a landslide.

Clearing works are actively ongoing, and the public is reminded to comply with safety directions and avoid the area.

This morning, a total of 375 residents from two longhouses in Sepupok, Batu Niah were evacuated after rising floodwaters inundated their homes, while several other parts of Miri also reported dangerously high water levels following continuous rainfall.
