MIRI, Sept 25: The construction of the Miri field hospital is facing some delays.
According to Minister for Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, the RM2.5 million project is supposed to be completed by February this year. However, it is facing delays in the construction work.
“I was informed that the project is now delayed until April 2024, and I have urged the contractor to speed up the construction,” Lee told local media today after conducting a site visit.
Lee has suggested that the project contractor hold a meeting with Miri Public Works Department (JKR), Miri Resident and Miri Hospital medical personnel as soon as possible.
The proposal to build the Miri field hospital was put forward by Miri Disaster Management Committee (MDMC) to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) during the Covid-19 pandemic, initially to temporarily accommodate Covid-19 patients.
“It’s already long overdue, and we cannot wait,” Lee said.
With the weakening of the Covid-19 pandemic, the field hospital will be used to accommodate cases of infectious or contagious diseases.
The facility will have 100 beds—50 each for male and female patients, Lee said. — DayakDaily
