Miri cops confirm: Man found dead in ditch is OKU card holder, reported missing since Jan 29

MIRI, Feb 9: Police have confirmed that the body of a man found in a ditch outside a supermarket last night was a person with disabilities (OKU) who was reported missing since Jan 29.

According to Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the body was discovered by a local man who was foraging for bamboo shoots in the area.

“A family member of the deceased identified the body, who was reported missing at the Lutong police station,” he said in a statement.

He added that the victim was an OKU card holder with visual impairment and dealt with mental health issues.

Preliminary investigations found no criminal elements or suspicious injuries on the victim’s body, and police have opened a sudden death report (SDR) investigation to identify the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, Alexson advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified news on social media.

“We ask the public always to be aware of their surroundings. Those with information on the case can make a report at the nearest police station or call 085-433730,” he said. — DayakDaily
