MIRI, Sept 4: Earthworks for the Miri Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Plant Project is targeted to begin in early September 2023, says Miri City Council (MCC) Mayor Adam Yii.
The project, which is owned by Petros Power Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros), will include the site preparation, such as survey and site clearing, to be followed by other earthwork activities to begin next year.
Yii said MCC has approved the mobilisation of heavy machinery and the installation of construction project signages and temporary traffic warning signages.
“The purpose of the earthworks is an essential step in preparing the ground for the Miri CCGT Power Plant, a facility designed to enhance energy production efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
“The earthwork project duration will take approximately 11 months to complete, and any further updates will be given accordingly.
“During the earthwork activities, you will expect traffic congestion, as heavy machinery and vehicle movement, to increase around the project site. And there will be noise and dust within the project fenceline area,” said Yii in a press statement today.
The public is urged to take safety precautions by adhering to the strict safety measures implemented and to respect all the safety signages, barricades and directions from the site personnel and the authorities.
Yii, who is also Pujut assemblyman, appealed to the public to avoid the site work zone unless necessary.
Regretting any inconveniences caused, he said MCC and the project owner’s main commitment is to ensure the safety of the residents, public, road users and the environment.
“We appreciate the understanding and patience of the Miri Community. With your support, we can pave the way for a greener, greater and more sustainable future for Miri City,” said Yii. — DayakDaily
