Miri City Christmas Parade scheduled for Dec 3 at Miri City Fan Urban Park

MIRI, Nov 29: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg will be invited to grace Miri City Christmas Parade which will be held on Dec 3, 2022 (Saturday) at Miri City Fan Urban Park from 5.00pm.

According to a press statement, the Roman Catholic Church is heading the organising committee of the upcoming parade themed “Jesus, Joy of Christmas” with 17 churches registered to participate.

The parade will start from Miri City Fan Urban Park and will pass through Jalan Kipas, Jalan Sylvia, Jalan Brooke Jalan Bendahara, Jalan Nahkoda Gampar, Jalan South Yu Seng, Jalan North Yu Seng, Jalan Datuk Merpati, Jalan Kipas and back to Miri City Fan Urban Park.

The Miri City Christmas Parade is a combined effort of all churches in Miri in conjunction with Miri City Council (MCC) to celebrate the festive occasion with the aim of promoting the parade as a signature event in Miri City.

MCC and the churches in Miri have been organising the festival celebration since 2008 and it was eventually included in the Sarawak Calendar of Tourism Events in light of the unique celebration’s popularity.

“The event this year is even more significant as, apart from local dignitaries, foreign distinguished guests will also be joining this celebration upon receiving official invitation from MCC,” said MCC in the press statement.

MCC also announced that it will be holding a grand reception for Miri City Mayor’s Awards 2021/2022 on Dec 5, 2022 (Monday) at Pullman Waterfront Hotel starting 6pm.

There are 28 candidates in 11 categories participating in the awards. These 11 categories are Grand Mayor’s Special Award, Safety and Security Award, Mayor’s Special Award, Youth, Culture, Arts, Sport Promotion & Talents Award, Tourism Promotion Award, Welfare Award, Healthcare Award, Environment Award, Education Award, Corporate Award and Industrial Safety Practices Award.

Meanwhile, MCC mayor Adam Yii disclosed that a delegation from of La Trinidad City, Benguet, Philippines led by Mayor Romeo K Salda, will be visiting Miri City from Dec 2 to 6, 2022.

Yii who is also the Pujut assemblyman said the visit will promote closer ties between Miri City and La Trinidad City, which he believed will create more opportunities for bilateral cooperation in tourism, culture and agriculture. — DayakDaily
