KUCHING, Oct 21: The Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED) identifies four priority growth clusters with a projected investment potential of RM275 billion to RM330 billion following a comprehensive Sarawak Investment Policy Study.
According to MINTRED Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, the identified growth clusters will create 254,000 jobs by 2030.
Awang Tengah, who is also Deputy Premier noted that the first two clusters identified are Clean Energy Industries and Petrochemicals.
Clean Energy Industries will leverage renewable energy to develop green manufacturing, while Petrochemicals will expand downstream gas, petrochemical, and oleochemical industries, including sustainable aviation fuel and carbon capture activities.
Meanwhile, the other two clusters are Advanced Industries: covering semiconductors, electronics, medical technology, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, bioindustries, AI data centres, and high-value food manufacturing; and Tourism and Services, focusing on ecotourism, business events, higher education, medical, and digital services.
”To connect local businesses with these opportunities, we are building commercial linkages through the Sarawak Global Supply Chain and Sourcing Programme 2026 in Kuching and engagements in Shanghai, Seoul, London and Munich,” said Awang Tengah during his ministerial winding up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly sitting today.
The Bukit Sari assemblyman shared that in the first half of 2026, Sarawak recorded approximately RM11.2 billion in approved investments across the primary, manufacturing, and services sectors, with domestic investments accounting for 61 per cent.
He added that these investments included expansion and reinvestment by some existing foreign investors.
“This builds on RM116.8 billion in approved investments between 2021 and 2025, reflecting continued confidence among domestic and foreign investors. In the manufacturing sector, 62 per cent of approved projects are at various stages of implementation.
“Our immediate priority is to turn approvals into operating projects. Further proposals are progressing through evaluation and negotiation, with more final investment decisions expected in the next quarter,” he said. – DayakDaily
