KUCHING, Mar 26: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos supported Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s move to extend the period for the movement control for another two weeks to April 14.

He believed the extension was timely as it will help to flatten the infection curve of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak which has seen a sudden increase in the past few days.

“The move is timely and wise, even though it will cause some inconveniences and disruptions in the daily lives of Malaysians and to the national economy.

“This is one sacrifice that we all have to make for the ultimate and decisive battle against Covid-19.

“We must emulate China which, after being attacked by Covid-19 has successfully won the war against the deadly virus by having a continuous period of 45 days of lockdown,” he said through a statement.

Peter observed that the Chinese government did what was needed to be done because locking down the people at home was the only choice given that an effective Covid-19 vaccine had yet to be developed.

Besides the 45 days of lockdown, Peter also observed that China had implemented other measures such as social distancing, checking those infected and treating them and strictly enforcing government’s orders and rules to combat the deadly Covid-19. —DayakDaily
