KUCHING, May 19: The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) will meet with the Coldplay Concert organiser to discuss the issue of unscrupulous scalpers reselling tickets at higher prices.
Its Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the meeting would be joined by officials from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to gain a better insight into how the situation unfolds and discuss solutions to prevent the same issue from happening in the future.
Scalpers are individuals who buy multiple tickets to an event, such as a concert, and resell them at hiked prices later to gain profit.
“Among the things that we may look into is the way the tickets are purchased, whether there should be any restrictions and conditions proposed or imposed on the organisers or looking at the appropriateness of the situation.
“For MCMC, we will examine the digital platforms used by the scalpers where many have expressed dissatisfaction.
“We are looking into the legal provisions available if we need to take action,” he told reporters when met at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here today.
He also reminded the public to purchase concert tickets from legitimate sources to avoid falling victim to scalpers.
