KUCHING, July 31: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has introduced a dedicated pathway for students from Sarawak and Sabah to join the teaching profession, aimed at addressing teacher recruitment and placement needs in both regions.

In a TVS news report, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry is also prioritising teacher placements based on locality, enabling trainees to serve closer to their hometowns and strengthen education in rural areas.

“We are giving special priority to children from Sabah, Sarawak, and the Orang Asli communities at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPGM) level. This ensures that local placement needs are properly addressed at the school level,” she said during the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today.

She was responding to a proposal by Kalam Salan (Perikatan Nasional – Sabak Bernam), who urged the government to prioritise the intake of IPG students from Sarawak and Sabah to help increase the number of teachers in the regions.

Fadhlina also revealed that the nationwide teacher placement rate has reached 97 per cent, thanks to cooperation with the Education Services Commission’s Assessment Management System (SPP).

“We must continue to raise this figure to ensure every child receives quality education, supported by a sufficient number of teachers,” she added. — DayakDaily
