“When we talk about shortage of teachers (in Sarawak), it is not all about shortage of English teachers, but other teachers as well.

“My ministry is working with MEC, which recruits teachers, and the Ministry of Education to address the issue,” Sagah told reporters today after officiating at the earth-breaking ceremony of RM4.3 million Serian branch Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Community Centre, here.

According to Sagah, there is a shortage of roughly 1,000 teachers in primary school and over 200 faced by secondary school across Sarawak.

Sagah, who is Tarat assemblyman also opined that the shortage of English teachers in Sarawak was not critical.

“To address the issue of a shortage of English teachers, MEITD is consistently working with teachers colleges and Sarawak English Language Education Symposium (Seles),” he stressed. — DayakDaily
