KUCHING, April 8: The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has dismissed claims that additional applications for the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) subsidy are now open to the public, describing them as “untrue and baseless.”

In a statement yesterday (April 7), MOF clarified that while an “additional application” function existed during the early rollout of Budi95, it was never intended for personal requests to increase subsidy limits.

“The feature was designed solely for specific cases with verified operational needs, such as e-hailing drivers and boat owners, subject to strict criteria,” the ministry said.

MOF added that the function had been misinterpreted as a way to freely request higher subsidy eligibility, prompting the deactivation of the application button.

The ministry reaffirmed that the Budi95 monthly limit of 200 litres remains in place to ensure subsidies are targeted effectively while maintaining supply stability.

“This temporary measure is necessary due to ongoing pressures in the global energy market, which have increased subsidy costs and require careful management,” the statement said.

According to MOF data, the 200-litre limit meets the needs of 90 per cent of Budi95 users. At the subsidised rate of RM1.99 per litre, recipients can purchase up to RM398 of RON95 per month, with the government covering roughly RM500 in subsidy per person.

“The government remains committed to protecting the rakyat, strengthening enforcement to prevent leakages, and closely monitoring global energy trends, ready to make adjustments if needed,” MOF added. — DayakDaily
