KUCHING, Aug 9: Minister for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah wants Sarawakian athletes to have the right mindset and killer instinct in order for Sarawak to become a sports powerhouse.

“Whatever we do, not just in sports, but also in our careers and in life, it all comes back to our mindset and whether or not we want to be successful.

“If you want to be a good athlete, you must always have the right mentality and killer instinct; with such a mentality and instinct, you can overcome any challenge,” Abdul Karim said today during a press conference after officiating at 9th Asian South Pacific Association of Sport Psychology (ASPASP) International Congress 2022 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.

He noted that quite a few Sarawakian athletes have achieved great success thus far.

“Whether you are a sprinter, runner, cyclist, swimmer, or diver, I firmly believe that you must possess the proper mindset and killer instinct in order to achieve success,” he added.

Meanwhile, Abdul Karim, who is also the Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, noted that Sarawak’s preparation for Malaysia Games (Sukma) is currently progressing well.

“Every Sukma, Sarawak has always finished in the top five, but if we want to become champions, our athletes, coaches, and officials must have the mentality of being one step ahead of every other state, and they must believe that nothing can stop them from overcoming obstacles.

“If each of them can have that kind of outlook, I don’t think any state can beat us in any sporting event,” he added. — DayakDaily
