KUCHING, July 22: Sarawak is poised to play a pivotal role in becoming a cornerstone in Malaysia’s cultural and tourism development ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026), says the federal Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.

In his Sarawak Day message, he reiterated his commitment to highlighting Borneo’s biodiversity, natural landscapes, and communal cultures to craft unique cultural tourism offerings that reflect Sarawak’s essence and meet the growing demand for high-quality, integrated cultural tourism experiences.

More importantly, he said, these efforts aim to inject vitality into Sarawak’s economy and open up diverse income streams for the people of Sarawak.

“Our fertile land holds timeless stories of peoples, history, and culture. Sarawak has earned international acclaim for its cultural preservation, encompassing Dayak heritage, ethnic cuisines, and exquisite handicrafts.

“These cultural treasures are carefully preserved and proudly promoted. The inscription of the Niah National Park Caves as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2024 stands as a proud testament to our achievements in cultural and natural conservation.

“We will continue our efforts to showcase Sarawak’s rich heritage and natural wonders to global travellers, offering them eye-opening experiences,” he said.

At the same time, Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP and assemblyman for Dudong, said that the steadfast support of Sarawakians is the strength that propels Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) forward.

“In our pursuit of greater rights and opportunities, we will press on boldly, undeterred by challenges, working to generate more revenue that translates into infrastructure improvements across rural areas and uplifting livelihoods across the State,” he said. — DayakDaily
