KUCHING, Jan 26: The upcoming 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak, also known as Sukma 2024, will be the biggest sporting event in Malaysia, featuring 37 events to be contested.

Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (Mysed) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said it has more sports events than the Summer Olympic Games.

“The spin-off from the event is massive in terms of economy, especially for the hotel operators, transport services, and many others.

“The expected attendance will be around 16,000 people for both athletes and officials, not including family members and supporters,” he said during the Mysed Appreciation Dinner at a local hotel yesterday (Jan 25).

Abdul Karim also hoped those involved in organising the Sukma event could work together to ensure it would be smooth.

“I know it is not going to be easy, and I hope it will be successful,” he added.

Sarawak will host Sukma 2024 from Aug 17 to 24, scheduled to take place in Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Serian, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, and Miri divisions. — DayakDaily
