KANOWIT, March 25: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved RM1.5 billion from the Rascom Development Agency (Rasda) to develop Kanowit and Selangau, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

In sharing the good news at the Kanowit-level Rabies Prevention and Control Awareness Campaign 2023, Aaron said the allocation would be used to improve the infrastructure in Kanowit and Selangau.

In addition to that, Aaron said the project would also emphasise the socioeconomics of the two areas through sustainable agricultural activity.

“We have organised several labs to explain the Rasda project for a clearer understanding of the people,” said Aaron, who is also Kanowit MP.

Touching on rabies, he said five deaths were reported in the Kanowit district from 2022 to 2023.

“This is something to be worried about because if we don’t do something about it, more deaths could happen,” he said.

He said the campaign, which was organised by the Kanowit District Office and Sibu Hospital, was timely as the public would be more aware of the disease.

The campaign saw 538 participants comprising community leaders.
