SARIKEI, Aug 12: Construction of the Pan Borneo Highway package (WPC 06) in Sarikei, involving a total road length of 64.48km, is expected to be completed by October this year.

Federal Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the work package, which is divided into two main sections, namely Bukit Sebangkoi Section and Sarikei Section, is currently at 97 per cent completion.

“For Bukit Sebangkoi Section, the status of construction works has reached 99 per cent, with remaining work involving the connection of utility facilities (water pipes and electricity connection to street lights in the involved locations), installation of signage, and installation of street lights at the P-turn.

“As for the Sarikei Section, which has reached 95 per cent completion, the contractor is now focusing on connecting the main pipe that supplies water to the entire Sarikei Division, and these works require time and are done carefully so as not to damage the utility, which could affect water supply to the public.

“All construction works are expected to be fully completed by October this year,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday (Aug 11).

Nanta, who is also Kapit MP, further mentioned that he had inspected the flood-prone area at KM345 Kuching-Miri Road under WPC 04.

“Among the solutions discussed is to raise the road level to a height of 1.7 meters from the existing road. This also involves road widening works.

“I was also informed that the reclamation work will start next month and is expected to be completed in December this year,” he added. — DayakDaily
