PUTRAJAYA, April 16: Up until February this year, more than 530,000 tourists from China have arrived in Malaysia, says Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing.

In a Facebook post yesterday (April 15), the Bintulu MP thanked Chinese citizens for helping to increase the number of tourists in Malaysia, which brings the country one step closer to its target of five million tourists from China this year.

“Stronger cooperation can provide additional impetus to the tourism industry of Malaysia and China collectively,” he said.

He said this after receiving a courtesy call from a delegation led by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) president Yang Wanming yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Dudong assemblyman also expressed appreciation for Malaysia and China’s close partnership in developing training centres in the country.

“Exchange programmes in education and culture will continue to intensify, including more collaboration in technical education and vocational training (TVET) programmes.

“We believe this TVET initiative will bring great benefits in strengthening the technical and vocational skills of the students involved,” he said.

On the courtesy call, Tiong said it was an acknowledgement of the strong friendship between Malaysia and China, which was also in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries. — DayakDaily
