KUCHING, May 21: Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) will hold internal discussions to ensure all operators involved in the tourism industry maintain quality and standards.
Its minister Dato Sri Tiong King Sing in a Facebook post today said those who fail to meet the minimum rating standards will be subject to a ratings downgrade.
“These include homestays or hotels that are not registered under the ministry.
“We will also discuss how to regulate them to better protect the experience and rights of domestic and foreign tourists,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tiong also urged tourism industry players to plan for the market’s return by arranging maintenance schedules, renovations and upgrading their assets.
He pointed out that the quality of experience related to hotel stays and washrooms are vital to tourists’ perception of Malaysia because Southeast Asia is an aggressive and competitive market for tourists.
Sadly, he said, the ministry still receives many complaints and feedback from tourists on the state of their hotel and holiday experiences.
“Overall, environments in hotels are not satisfactory, toilets in certain locations are insufficient and badly need cleaning. All of these factors add to the tourists’ negative experiences and bad reviews for other potential tourists,” he added. — DayakDaily
