KUCHING, May 14: National Unity (KPN) Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang emphasises the importance of reviving and introducing the recitation of the National Principles (Rukun Negara) at the opening of every parliamentary term, in official government ceremonies, and in schools.

When speaking at Unity Government National Convention 2023, which was held today at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur in Kuala Lumpur today, he said reciting the Rukun Negara should be made mandatory at certain events and functions.

“The most important aspect of managing unity is to promote togetherness, tolerance, and respect among communities of various races, religions, and cultures.

“We have prioritised reviving the Rukun Negara in the current unity government, and we have also suggested that it be recited at the start of every opening of the parliamentary term, every official ministry function, and in schools.

“We request that the Rukun Negara be made mandatory to recite in order to fuel love for the country,” he said.

Aaron pointed out the national unity ministry was re-established on March 10, 2020, as part of the government’s commitment to seeing unity as the foundation of community stability and the key to the country’s development and well-being.

“As a result, the national unity policy has already been established with the framework of the National Unity Blueprint 2021-2030, which is a policy document that creates a basic framework with specific strategies in order for unity to become the culture and lifestyle that all Malaysians desire,” he added.

Furthermore, Aaron highlighted that the national reform policy is divided into three unity pillars: patriotism and democracy, national identity, and the unity ecosystem.

“And now, under the administration of the unity government, the Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim has declared the concept of ‘Building a Civilised Malaysia’ as an effort that explains the strategy to govern the country effectively while continuing to build a civilised society,” he remarked.

He also encouraged the public to attend the Unity Week Celebration, which will be held at the Kuching Waterfront in Kuching from May 20 to May 28. — DayakDaily
