KUCHING, Jan 2: Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Seri Tiong King Sing has urged the general public to look at the reopening of China’s borders rationally and not jeopardise the relations between both countries.

He expressed confidence that with the reopening of the border gates, Malaysia can increase economic growth through activities in the tourism sector and make Malaysia one of the top ten destinations of choice for tourists from China.

“We can see that on social media and media reports, many are not in favour of the Chinese government regarding the reopening of their border gates, but we need to be careful in giving views before understanding the actual situation of what is happening.

“We also need to take care of the diplomatic relations between the two countries that have been closely intertwined for so long.

“Whatever the issue or problem, both countries can sit down to discuss and overcome it together,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Tiong also expressed appreciation to China for its continued cooperation in giving support to Malaysia, especially in the tourism sector, apart from being its biggest trade partner. — DayakDaily
