Minister lauds performances, organisation of recent Sarawak DanceSport Championship

KUCHING, May 3: Minister for Youth, Sports And Entrepreneur Development, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah commended the organisers and participants of the Sarawak DanceSport Championship 2023 held recently at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

He said that the strong passion and enthusiasm of those are evident from the slick and polished performances of dancers in the various events.

“It well backed up by a strong technical team and it is indeed impressive,” he said, according to a press statement from Sarawak DanceSport Association.


Abdul Karim also revealed that his ministry supports Sarawak DanceSport Association’s (SDA) lobbying for DanceSport to be included as an exhibition sport in the coming Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 to be hosted by Sarawak.

“The proposal of the SDA for DanceSport as an exhibition sport that was presented to Sukma Supreme Council is being favorably considered,” he said.

Sarawak DanceSport Championship 2023 held at BCCK on April 30 was organised by SDA in conjunction with its 18th anniversary.

The competition was supported by Ministry of Youth, Sports And Entrepreneur Development, Sarawak Sports Corporation, Sarawak Sports Council and Sarawak Youth & Sports Department.

The physical competition with dinner and dance was held after a three-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. It drew about 100 participants from Sarawak and Sabah for Latin, Standard, Breaking and Ballet dance categories.

Also present were Abdul Karim’s wife Datin Sri Zuraini Abdul Jabbar and SDA president Chester Lim. — DayakDaily
