KUCHING, Sept 28: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh hopes there will be no more sporting events excluded from future editions of the Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma).
Yeoh said this is to enable all para-athletes to participate based on their ability through the platform provided.
“I have discussed this matter with Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Development Sarawak (KPWK) Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, and we both hoped that in future editions of Para Sukma, there will not be any events that are excluded,” she said during the closing ceremony of Para Sukma 2024 Sarawak at the Sarawak Indoor Stadium tonight.
Apart from that, Yeoh lauded Sarawak for its capability as the host for the 21st Para Sukma 2024.
She added that Sarawak also has set a new benchmark for the next Para Sukma to be held in Selangor.
“Based on the improvements implemented in Para Sukma 2024 Sarawak, for the next Para Sukma in Selangor, I hope we can create another legacy, which is to step towards ‘zero classification’ policy there,” she said.
The zero classification policy is the proper classification needs of para-athletes based on their disability, which is either conducted earlier in their origin states before attending the event or upon arrival at the organising state.
The process is to ensure that they are not excluded from competition due to misclassifications.
