MetMalaysia: No significant threat from tropical storm Nokaen to Malaysia

KUCHING, Jan 19: Tropical storm Nokaen poses no significant threat to Malaysia, according to an advisory issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) this morning.

In its Tropical Cyclone Advisory issued at 8.45am today (Jan 19), MetMalaysia said the storm was last observed at 8am at latitude 16.6 degrees North and longitude 126.5 degrees East, about 479 kilometres east-northeast of Naga City in the Philippines.

The system is currently moving east-northeast at a speed of 10 kilometres per hour, with a maximum sustained wind speed of up to 65 kilometres per hour.

MetMalaysia noted that the nearest point of impact to Malaysia is approximately 1,502 kilometres east-northeast of Pitas, Sabah.

“At this time, there is no significant impact on Malaysia,” the department said, adding that the situation will continue to be monitored.
