KUCHING, May 16: Construction of the Meradong Mini Industrial Park was approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan, says Deputy Minister of International Trade and Investment Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh.
He said the project site measuring six hectares at Jalan Pasi near Sungai Meradong bridge, was approved for this purpose.
Malcolm was responding to a question raised by Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.
Ding asked whether the ministry has any plans to introduce light industrial estates in Meradong as the existing one is too near to housing estates, schools, a sports complex, and government departments.
Responding to Ding’s supplementary questions, Malcolm said the approved scheme value for the Meradong Mini Industrial Park is RM25 million, but the approved ceiling under 12MP is only RM0.5 million.
“Nonetheless, my ministry has applied to increase the ceiling under the 12MP,” he said.
In terms of infrastructure, Malcolm disclosed the ministry plans to build an ‘Anjung Usahawan’ (entrepreneur centre) equipped with facilities such as processing centre, kiosks, and incubators.
