Medical staff infected by Covid-19 continue to rise, tally up to 106

KUCHING, Feb 6: The number of Covid-19 cases which involved healthcare workers in Sarawak continued to rise.

The latest number from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) disclosed that there were two cases of Covid-19 which were identified among healthcare workers across health facilities in Sarawak.


One case was detected in Song and another case in Kanowit.

With the additional two cases which involved medical staff of hospital, the cumulative number of healthcare workers who were infected with Covid-19 has risen to 106 persons.

Yesterday, there were seven cases reported across various health facilities in the state.

Kapit witnessed the most number with three cases followed by Bintulu with two cases while Sibu and Miri reported one case each.

On Jan 25, State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing told DayakDaily that there were a total of 53 medical officers across four major hospitals in Sarawak down with the coronavirus.

Subsequently on Jan 26, another five new cases which involved medical staff were reported.

On Jan 29, SDMC disclosed that there were nine new infections.

Thereon, the figure continued to go up with one new case on Jan 30, three on Jan 31, six on Feb 1, four each on Feb 2 and 3 and eight on Feb 4.  — DayakDaily
