KUCHING, April 10: A total of 14 people have been arrested and 73 others issued compounds for violating the movement control order (MCO) in the 24-hour period since 8am yesterday.
According to Sarawak deputy police commissioner Datuk Dev Kumar, 33 people were charged in court, with 30 individuals pleaded guilty and one person claimed trial to the charge.
Of the arrests, seven were made in Betong, followed by Limbang (4) and one each in Miri, Sibu and Kanowit.
As for those who were charged in court, 11 were in Kuching, followed by Sibu (8), Bintulu (5), Samarahan (4), Miri (2) and one each from Padawan, Serian and Lubok Antu.
“Padawan district recorded the highest compound with 22, followed by 19 in Kuching, 12 in Sibu and eight in Sarikei.
“Kota Samarahan and Bau both recorded three cases, two in Saratok and one each in Simunjan, Kanowit, Kapit and Matu Daro,” Dev said in a statement.
He added that two individuals were issued with an arrest warrant for failure to show up in court. — DayakDaily
