According to a press release, from among 30 finalists nationwide, MBKS stood out with two nominated projects–Bank Sampah and the Kuching Natural Farmers’ Market.

The Bank Sampah initiative eventually clinched the award for its innovative approach to recycling and waste reduction through a reward-based system, turning household recyclables into valuable resources while promoting environmental responsibility.

This latest award adds to MBKS’s strong track record at the JCIM SDA, including the I-People/Qmunity App (2020, SDG 11), Let’s Recycle Together (2021, SDG 12), upgrading of the Traffic Garden and Kenyalang Park open spaces (2023, SDG 11), and the iBuyBack App (2024, SDG 11).

Wee commended MBKS councillors and staff for their teamwork and commitment.

“This achievement reflects the passion and dedication of our MBKS family in building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Kuching South,” he said in a statement.

MBKS reaffirmed its commitment to continue pursuing community-driven projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to improve the quality of life for residents. – DayakDaily
