KUCHING, Dec 18: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has issued a notice today reminding all hawkers and their workers to wear face masks at all times while at markets or hawker centres.

According to MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, the wearing of face masks is to protect everyone due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.

“Your kind cooperation and compliance on this matter is very much appreciated,” he noted.

On Dec 16, it was reported that Sarawak has witnessed a staggering 171 per cent increase in Covid-19 cases, with 310 reported cases during Epidemiological Week (EW) 49, spanning from Dec 3 to Dec 9.

Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian also expressed deep concern about the escalating trend in hospital admissions for Covid-19 since early November 2023.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has announced that there are no plans to implement lockdowns, such as the movement control order (MCO), despite a 62.2 per cent increase (20,696) in Covid-19 cases between Dec 10 and Dec 16. — DayakDaily
