MBKS to provide more infrastructure devt, better environment to flourish post-pandemic in 2023

KUCHING, Dec 31: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) looks forward to providing more infrastructure and a better environment for Kuching city to flourish post-pandemic as it hops into the year of the Water Rabbit.

Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng noted that some are still struggling despite Malaysiaā€™s economy picking up again after Covid-19. Hence, he hoped to put an end to their struggles.

ā€œMBKS will do everything in its power to support them. The Council continues to provide the infrastructure and the environment for them to flourish ā€” clean, safe, beautiful, and sustainable.

ā€œWe are also launching our mayorā€™s awards next year to recognise unsung community heroes who are giving up their time and energies to help those less fortunate than themselves,ā€ he said in his New Year Message today.

Known as the mayor of masks, Wee also called on Sarawakians not to slack off and continue to put health and hygiene as a key concern to protect themselves.

At the same time, he also informed that MBKS is embarking on its first major public infrastructure project in several decades, where its new UNESCO gastronomy centre and family fun water park promise to be a community hub for all the cityā€™s residents.

The project, he said, will rejuvenate the traditional city centre, provide an impetus for appreciation of local traditions through ongoing series of murals to adorn Padungan in its 100th anniversary year, and provide a basis for creative expansion for the youth and communities.

ā€œWe will soon welcome New Year 2023, the Year of Water Rabbit. I am uncertain if the new year will be tougher than the last, but I have high hopes that we will have a more positive, colourful and brighter prospect throughout the new year. So letā€™s not lose hope for a better life and better self.

ā€œI wish you all a Happy New Year 2023, and may this new year be the beginning of something great. I am sending all my love, prayers and good wishes to you all.

ā€œStay alert, stay healthy and strong and take good care of yourself,ā€ he added. ā€” DayakDaily
