KUCHING, Feb 12: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will conduct a primary study on the effectiveness of carbon dioxide index monitoring to come up with ventilation guidelines for business premises.
MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the study will be carried out with professors and experts from University Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus.
Several premises with different criteria, such as enclosed premises, no centralised air-conditioning, and high customer volume, would be selected as part of the study.
“These include places like eateries, retail stores, gyms, offices, and banks. We have identified a few sectors and from there some premises will be selected.
“Indoor air quality meters will be installed in these premises while experts observe the readings daily to determine a set of guideline in terms of indoor ventilation,” he said during his Facebook live session here today.
Once the guideline is ready, Wee said other business premises can then prepare their shops following MBKS’ instructions in order to have good ventilation.
He said ventilation is one of the important factors in curbing the Omicron infection which is airborne, thus the priority of the project.
Last week on Feb 8, MBKS had a Zoom meeting with Unimas, Swinburne, and public health officers to discuss the matter.
On coming Tuesday, Wee said there will be another virtual meeting to draft out the implementation of the entire project starting with the primary study.
MBKS is targeting to fully implement the ventilation project before June this year. ā DayakDaily
