KUCHING, April 13: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has committed to look into addressing the lack of designated parking for tourist buses or coaches at Friendship Park in Jalan Song here.

Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng addressed this concern during his ShallWeeTalk Facebook live today, responding to a netizen’s complaint that the park does not have a parking lot for tourist buses.

The concerned netizen also raised the issue of the bus stop in front of Stutong Market often being occupied by cars, urging the Council or relevant authorities to take action to resolve these issues.

“I will look into that, similar to the implementation of two bus parking lots at the White Cat statue in Padungan,” he said.

Additionally, Wee highlighted that some upgrading and decoration works would be undertaken to enhance Friendship Park in conjunction with this year’s 50th-anniversary celebrations of bilateral relations between Malaysia and China.

“On May 31, the park will host a celebration with events and programmes.

“Currently, we are waiting for sponsorship for lanterns from Yunnan (Province in China), another friendship city with Kuching, to facilitate the decoration works,” he said.

The Malaysia-China Friendship Park, spanning 2.8 hectares, serves as a commemorative site marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations since 1974.
