KUCHING, June 11: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is the first and only local council in the whole of Malaysia to conduct a ventilation index study to help curb the transmission of Covid-19.

MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the council, together with experts from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak have started conducting tests in some restaurants.

“We have identified several locations such as restaurants, banks, gyms and some popular convenience stores (for the ventilation index study).

“Through the tests, we will be able to find out the ventilation index in these premises during peak and non-peak hours.

“From there, we will see how to introduce some guidelines for the operators so that they could improve air ventilation in their premises,” he said during his weekly ShallWeeTalk Facebook live session today.

Expecting the study to be completed by the end of July, Wee urged for full cooperation from the citizens and business owners in this project.

He expressed hopes that, through this study, a win-win situation could be achieved so that businesses can run smoothly while customers feel safe visiting these premises.

Meanwhile, Wee expressed his gratitude to Deputy Premier cum Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian for supporting the conduct of this study. — Dayakdaily
