KUCHING, Feb 8: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is striving to become a people-centric council that embraces high level of professionalism and integrity.

Its mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said a few important commitments have been taken to improve Kuching holistically, since he took up the post last September.

“The theme for MBKS year 2020 operation is to improve on ‘linkage and connectivity’.

“A council is most irrelevant when the people do not feel connected to it. As such, the importance of getting in touch with the people must not be overlooked,” he said at the MBKS Chap Goh Meh celebration here today.

He added that through constant engagement with citizens that the council can measure its efficacy and efficiency.

“As such, MBKS management are going through an overhaul, to re-engineer ourselves towards increasing the council’s capacity in managing our stakeholders, namely the state authority and our citizens.”

Touching on the event, Wee said it is important for the council to organise programmes cultivating the spirit of neighbourliness to promote cultural events.

He said the council will seek to create platforms and opportunities for Sarawakians of various background and ethnicity to interact and engage better with one another.

“We are adamant in organising more events that would reflect the state government’s stand in building an integrated and harmonious society,” he added. — DayakDaily
