KUCHING, May 4: MBKS presented 99-year-old and 102-year-old senior citizens at Kampung Lumba Kuda here with some goodies in the hopes of spreading Ramadan care and joy ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration that is fast approaching.
Kuching South City Commission (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng together with Councillor Sufian Ateng and a community leader handed over the goodies during their brief visits to the nonagenarian and centenarian at their respective homes today.
Wee emphasised that showing a caring attitude towards society is a culture that should be upheld during this festive season especially now is a difficult time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We must always respect the elderlies and care for them especially during this pandemic.
“They are at high-risk of diseases and as such, extra protection and attention must be given to them. The young people must take care of their elderly parents,” he said in a statement today.
Wee also took the opportunity to remind the public to help their elderly parents register for Covid-19 vaccinations as the phase two of the State Covid-19 Immunisation Programme targeting senior citizens and high-risk groups is ongoing.
“Help them register via MySejahtera app (under ‘dependent’) or through the official website www.vaksincovid.gov.my so that they can be scheduled to get vaccinated,” he advised. — DayakDaily
