MBKS shares Chinese New Year joy with 11 schools

KUCHING, Feb 8: As Chinese New Year draws near, the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has brought festive cheer to schools across the city, reinforcing its message of inclusivity and community spirit under the theme of leaving no one behind.

According to a press release, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng led the initiative, which saw the distribution of 627 boxes of mandarin oranges to 11 schools under the Kuching South area, bringing festive cheer and warm wishes to principals, teachers, and school staff ahead of the celebration.

The 11 schools were SJKC Stampin, SJK Chung Hua No. 2, SJK Chung Hua No. 5, SK Batu Lintang, SJK St Paul, SJK Chung Hua No. 1, SK Song Kheng Hai, SJK Chung Hua No. 3, SJK Chung Hua Pending, SJK (C) Bintawa, and SJK (C) Sungai Apong.

Wee also expressed his appreciation to the principals, teachers, and school staff of the 11 schools for their hard work and dedication in educating and caring for the children.

He said the mandarin oranges were a small festive gift to thank them for their continued contributions and commitment to the school community.

He further thanked Tay Motor for generously sponsoring all 627 boxes of mandarin oranges, adding that the support reflects strong corporate responsibility and good cooperation with the community.

“Chinese New Year is about culture, unity, and being together. Mandarin oranges symbolise wealth, good luck and prosperity. By sharing them with our schools, we hope to pass on these good wishes and positive values,” he said.

Wee added that initiatives like this show the importance of caring for one another and sharing the joy of festive celebrations with the whole community.
