KUCHING, April 1: A delegation of 12 students from Kuching travelled to Guro, South Korea from March 30 to April 4 for a youth exchange programme, aimed at strengthening cultural ties and fostering global friendships.
The programme forms part of the student exchange under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and Guro City, which alternates annually to ensure long-term collaboration and sustained engagement between the two cities.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the exchange offers youth a valuable opportunity to broaden their perspectives, connect internationally, and gain a deeper appreciation of other cultures.
“This programme is more than just a visit. It is a meaningful learning experience that allows our students to immerse themselves in a different culture, engage with their peers, and represent Kuching South on an international stage,” he said in a statement today.
During the visit, the delegation will meet the Mayor of Guro, participate in youth and cultural exchange activities, and explore the city’s local culture and education system.
Wee also noted that the programme aligns with MBKS’ commitment under the UNICEF Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI), where MBKS is currently recognised as a UNICEF Candidate City.
“This initiative supports our vision of creating opportunities for children and youth to participate, learn, and grow beyond borders. It reflects our dedication to nurturing globally aware, confident, and socially responsible young citizens,” he added.
The 12 students expressed their gratitude to Wee and MBKS for the chance to broaden their learning, experience a new culture, and represent the city abroad.
The partnership between MBKS and Guro continues to strengthen international ties while offering the next generation meaningful cultural and educational experiences. — DayakDaily
