KUCHING, Aug 29: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS), led by its mayor, Dato Wee Hong Seng, has been invited by the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) to participate in the ‘International Training Workshop on Smart Cities for Building Inclusive, Resilient, Liveable, and Sustainable Cities and Communities in Asia and the Pacific’.
According to a press release, 19 cities worldwide are participating in the workshop, which is held in Nagoya, Japan, from today until Sept 1.
It added that Wee was invited to deliver a special opening address on behalf of all the invited countries and was also given the opportunity to present the current situation in Kuching.
“Wee emphasised the significance of collaboration and guidance from UNCRD in developing a sustainable smart city for Kuching.
“The Council acknowledged its responsibility to ensure a secure environment for current and future generations and to raise awareness within the community about the importance of the smart city concept,” said the press release.
It went on to say that the concept of a smart city is not just about technological advancements but also about enhancing the quality of life for citizens by improving mobility, preserving the environment, and fostering inclusivity.
“Dato Wee would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the UNCRD for their guidance, support, and the invaluable lessons shared during this workshop.
“We look forward to continued cooperation and collaboration in the coming days as we embark on the journey to make Kuching City an inclusive, resilient, liveable, and sustainable smart city that we can all be proud of.” — DayakDaily
